Yang Xiao Bing graduated from Tianshui Normal Institute, Gansu Province in 1990 and started his painting career that year. He is known for his expressive and semi-abstract painting style, where the subject is often babies and boys. Yang often uses melancholic tones and colours in his paintings; possibly because of his personal experiences and encountered challenges. Yang is fond of using lines; overlapped lines build depth to the paintings and crisscrossed lines further create more perspectives and rhythms. The rain-like lines are also metaphoric to Yang’s urge and eagerness after spiritual freedom.
